Norman Manea, holocaust survivor and one of the most important contemporary Jewish-Romanian-American writers. Norman Manea’s work has been translated and acclaimed in more than 25 languages and received important international prizes. Speakers

Robert Boyers, editor of

Edward Hirsch, poet and president of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and
Michael Shafir, professor at Babes-Bolyai University Cluj, Romania, discussed Norman Manea, his work, and his influence. The event concluded with a dialogue between Norman Manea and
Jonathan Brent, Executive Director of YIVO, on "Jewishness and Literature."
