Julie Salamon, New York Times best-selling author, sits down with author Joel Dinerstein to discusses his latest book, The Last of the Ellis Island Jews: A Brooklyn Memoir. Dinerstein is the founding editor of a new series, Lost Classics of Jewish Literature, for the University of New Orleans Press. He is a Professor of English and a Sizeler Professor in Jewish Studies at Tulane University, where his courses focus on race and racism. He is also a well-known expert on the concept of cool, having written the first history of the subject (The Origins of Cool in Postwar America) and co-curated the first national exhibition on the subject (American Cool at the Smithsonian).
